Personal Best Pilates Studio

Amanda Iiams, MA, PA-CPT, CSCS, NKT Level 3,
Certified Juvo Board Teacher

Amanda JesseeAmanda has been a leader in the health and fitness industry since 1987.  She began her career as a group fitness instructor and personal trainer while completing her formal education.  She holds a BA in Exercise Science and an MA in Higher Ed Administration, Exercise Physiology, both from the University of Missouri.  Prior to joining the Personal Best Team, she was a full-time faculty member in the Physical Education Department of Santa Fe Community College.

Amanda’s passion for Pilates began in 2000, when she completed her training from the Physical Mind Institute.  She fell in love with the philosophies of Joseph Pilates – whole body exercise, integration of breath, body and mind, and control.  She loved the challenge of the movements, but felt there was something lacking in the way that many Pilates teacher training programs taught the method to potential Pilates teachers.  The focus for so many training programs was for the students to practice the movement to perfection, creating beautiful form and performance, but not necessarily preparing the students to teach Pilates effectively and safely to the general public.  She used her understanding of human bio-mechanics to analyze each movement and document how each exercise impacts the body’s neuro-muscular system.  This research created the foundation of Personal Best Pilates Instructor Academy’s (PBPIA) teacher training program.  Since 2003, she has trained hundreds of Pilates teachers, the majority of whom have gone on to earn national certification through the Pilates Method Alliance.  Her philosophy toward Pilates teacher training is simple: to provide high-quality, exercise science-based education that is affordable, convenient and most of all taught in a supportive and inclusive environment.

In 2013, Amanda discovered NeuroKinetic Therapy™, a system of manual muscle testing to identify muscle imbalances.  She realized this was the “missing link” to addressing root causes of pain for her clients’.  She is the only Level 2 NKT Therapist in the Kansas City area.
